The arts organisation a space supports emerging artistic talent and enables the development of sustainable careers within the arts. We endeavour to build the reputations of early career artists through encouraging the creation and exhibition of new works. The organisation delivers its objectives through a growing infrastructure, which currently consists of three major project platforms: the Bargate Monument Gallery, ArtVaults and the Arches studio complex.

The headquarters of the Southampton based arts organisation a space are located in the historic Bargate Monument from where all projects are run. The organisation strives to provide opportunities and support for emerging artists in Southampton and the surrounding regions. We achieve this through a growing infrastructure of three major project platforms: ArtVaults, the Bargate Monument Gallery and the Arches studios.
At a space we believe that art can be many things, including painting, drawing and sculpture but also installation, intervention, photography, performance and the moving image. It can take up whole spaces or tiny corners, be imposing and impressive or discreet and beautiful. It might sometimes be controversial, and may not always be everyone’s taste - but will always be stimulating, new and certainly never dull!
